LEEDTM
The U.S. Green Building Council members developed LEED Certification as a means to define
"green building" under a common standard of measurement, stimulate green competition, raise consumer
awareness of green building benefits, transform the building market, promote integrated,
whole-building design practices, and recognize environmental leadership in the building industry.
Building materials affect the environment throughout their life cycles and savings can
be found beginning with: harvesting or extracting of raw materials, manufacturing of
final product, transportation of the product, installation and use of the product
and finally reusing, recycling or disposing of the product. An On the Surface, LEED Accredited
Professional can help you maximize your LEED point potential in the Materials/Resource section,
by helping you specify the right environmentally preferred materials for your project.
